Bristol’s Nightlife Scene

If you haven’t heard, Bristol is a pretty cool city! We’ve got a unique vibe that’s artsy, edgy, quirky and fun, and a great nightlife scene to reflect this. From live music, dancing, cosy pubs or cocktail bars, Bristol has it all.

Bars and Pubs

If you’re looking for something cosier and more relaxed, there are plenty of pubs and bars to choose from for a great, intimate night out. The Milk Thistle, a hidden gem in the city centre, offers a speakeasy vibe with an impressive cocktail menu. If you want to explore some classic West Country ciders, check out The Coronation Tap in Clifton. It’s located very near Clifton Suspension Bridge too, a good way to finish off some exploring of Bristol’s landmarks. If you’re after some local beers, good food and a really cool space, make sure you visit Left Handed Giant, which is conveniently close to the Bristol Wing!

Live Music

Bristol is full of great spots for live music, from larger venues like the O2 Academy and Bristol Beacon, to smaller settings (even a boat!) Did someone say on a boat? Yep! Thekla is a legendary music venue on a moored-up cargo ship – it’s definitely worth a visit. Another great spot in the city centre is The Fleece, which hosts a range of rock, indie and alternative music.

Top tip: If music is your thing, have a look at any festivals that may taking place during your visit, or better yet plan your visit around a festival! Have a look at famous festivals like Love Saves the Day and Bristol Harbour Festival. We are also an easy train ride away from Cardiff, where some top performers play.

Nightclubs

Need to dance it out? We feel that. There are loads of nightclubs in Bristol to try out. Alternatively, some of our staff may be up for an impromptu dance-off in reception.

A top choice among locals and tourists alike is Motion, a world-renowned nightclub known for its DJ events. For something a bit more underground (literally), check out Basement 45. They even offer DJ lessons for the budding DJs! For something awesome, different, and right next to The Bristol Wing, look no further than The Lanes, a venue that combines live music, nightlife, and bowling. And pizza.

LGBTQ+ Scene

Bristol’s LGBTQ+ scene is both welcoming and vibrant. Old Market and Frogmore Street are hubs for LGBTQ+ nightlife, offering a range of bars and clubs that cater to the community. These venues provide inclusive spaces where everyone can enjoy a night out without hesitation. Top choice clubs include QueenShilling and OMG, both welcoming LGBTQ+ clubs with a great music, drag events and themed nights.

Safety and Inclusivity Initiatives

  • Many venues participate in the “Ask for Angela” campaign, allowing patrons to discreetly seek help from staff if they feel unsafe.
  • Bristol also has night marshals in the city centre on weekends to assist those in need.
  • The Bristol Nights initiative works to promote safety and inclusivity across venues.
