While we operate as a commercial hostel, what sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on our community. The Bristol Wing is a part of YMCA Brunel Group, which operates with an entrepreneurial spin. Our two commercial hostels (YMCA Bath Hostel and The Bristol Wing) provide vital funds to help cover our central costs. This means that 100% of any donations we receive, from £5 to £500, can go directly to our charitable work. When you stay with us, you are contributing to our social purpose.
Committed to our purpose, even in difficult times:
Before the dreaded lockdown, 9 of our rooms were dedicated to providing supported housing to at risk young people, who lived in our building in amongst our guests and received regular support from professionally trained staff.
During lockdown, we had to close our doors. We couldn’t let the building go unused however, so throughout the covid period, we sublet our hostel to St. Mungo’s Homeless Charity, who provided housing to the street homelessness. We were eager to still be doing our part for the community, and pleased to see our building overing support and shelter to those in need.
Now we have our building back, and while we no longer provide support services on site, our profits go straight to the central costs of our charity. YMCA Brunel Group operates 55 sites providing, supported housing for young people aged 16-25 (25+ in special circumstances), youth work, childcare and family support, and health and wellbeing services. The charity works across Mendip, South Somerset, Bath, Bristol and Wiltshire working to meet the specific needs of our community.
