If you are looking to enjoy the city of Bristol without spending loads of money, there are plenty of free things to do. From museums to walking tours to parks, there are a number of ways to experience Bristol and take in the sights, without opening your wallet. Here are some of our suggestions for free activities in Bristol:

Museums & Galleries
- Bristol Museum & Art Gallery holds an incredible collection of art, culture and natural history – all for free! It’s a great day out for family, couples or solo travellers.
- MShed is a unique, family-friendly museum that tells the story of Bristol. It is definitely a must-visit when in Bristol as you will learn about the city from a completely unexpected lens.
- The Arnolfini is an excellent contemporary art gallery on the harbourside. With fresh exhibitions, a great bookstore and a cafe and bar, this is a great spot to enjoy art and good vibes.
- Clifton Suspension Bridge is a classic Bristol landmark, but did you know you can visit the museum for free and learn about the history of the bridge? If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also do an underground vault tour.
Get out in Nature
- Leigh Woods can be found just near the Clifton Suspension Bridge. If you’re after a green escape from the bustling city, Leigh Woods is an oasis of calm. You’ll find plenty of walking and cycling trails and lovely spots to picnic.
- Werburghs City Farm is open 7 days a week, connecting the local community through nature and animals. It is a great activity for all ages, with lots to see and do including a woodland site, bee garden and cafe.
- Castle Park is a great spot in the centre of down (and just a few minutes’ walk from The Bristol Wing!) where you can enjoy some sunny weather with a picnic and river views.
- Windmill Hill City Farm is another green community haven within the city of Bristol. Visiting Windmill Hill City Farm’s 4.5 acres is completely free and accessible. Animals, a cafe and a farm shop, what more do you need?

Bristol Landmarks
- Nick’s Market is a must-see while you are visiting Bristol. Just around the corner from The Wing, you’ll find this vibrant covered market full of shops and street food. Looking is free, but you may be tempted by the smells of delicious food wafting your way (we usually are).
- Bristol is home to the world-renown (and very mysterious) street artist Banksy. As you wander around the city, you might notice some familiar street art. Check out this Banksy Walking Tour curated by Visit Bristol if you want the full Banksy experience.
- The Harbourside is one of the most popular landmarks in Bristol, and for good reason. Walking along the harbour you will spot colourful boats, street food, cafes and bars. It is vibrant and lively and so very Bristol.
- Cabot Tower is located within Brandon Park, a great spot for some greenery and relaxing walks. The tower itself is open to the public and free to walk up – from the top you will get stunning views of the city and surrounding areas.
